Gammage 8-19-2009

Over the years I've become more open minded about the different sounds of hip hop I expose myself to. Since living in Florida I've been exposed to some pretty dope cats. A couple of weeks ago I was exposed to this dude by the name of Gammage. My boy Brinson put me on to him and before I met him I half way listened to his music that played on his myspace page. I was still in my east coast, closed minded state but after this brotha came to do a taping for our television show he blessed my wife and I with his CD.

After a couple of days I decided to put the CD in my car stereo to see how this brotha's music would bump through my Bose speakers. When the very first joint came on, “Country Boy”, I thought that was hittin' hard so I decided to listen on. Now Gammage may not have the ill metaphors in every other bar that I'm used to but as an emcee this dude can hold his own in this competitive world of hip hop. Now it would be remise of me if I didn't share my experience when Gammage rocked a show with his crew, "True". In my opinion to make a complete package of a dope artist, you MUST have a stage presence to keep the crowd intrigued to what you're talking about. It's too many artists out here just standing around rapping while their entourage of 50 stands on the stage with them, also doing nothing. But that's not the case when Gammage teams up with his crew.

As soon as True hit the stage they came with enough crunkness to resurrect Mike Jackson. The crowd drew to them immediately, including this northern boy from Michigan. With Gammage and his homeboys bringing the lyrical funk, his fiancé', Avari, mellowed us out with her heaven-sent vocals which made it a complete package for the concert goers. After being exposed to this country boy I might just have to check in my Timberlands and see what these backwoods boys are all about.
