Fantastic Nominated for Best Documentary in Hip Hop Film Festival NYC

Film telling the story of one of hip hops most underrated groups from Detroit

NEW YORK, NY July  2018 – The feature-length documentary film, “FANTASTIC: The Legacy of Slum Village,” will make its NY premiere at the third edition of the award winning Hip Hop Film Festival, presented by 247Films.tv, and has been nominated for the “Best Documentary Award”.

Filmed by Righteous Entertainment, LLC, the FANTASTIC documentary tells the story of how 3 young men from the East side of Detroit formed one of the most underrated groups in hip hop history.  The film follows the men from hustle, success, tragedy and break-ups.

FANTASTIC documentary will screen on Thursday, Aug 2nd at 8pm EST at The National Black Theatre 2031 Fifth Avenue New York, NY 10035.  Immediately following the screening, FANTASTIC documentary Director and Producer, Moe and Nicki Lynch will discuss the film during a brief Q&A session.

“This film started simply as a passion project,” said Moe Lynch, Writer & Director of FANTASTIC.  “As a fan of the group Slum Village, I wanted to find out what’s been going on with them since their breakout hit, “Selfish”, featuring Kanye West and John Legend back in 2004.   I didn’t know how the original members J Dilla and Baatin passed away, or the current status of the group.”

To native Detroiters and Michigan residents, Slum Village became hip hops version of “The Temptations”, with various member changes and inner group turmoil.  They were highly influential to some of the greatest Hip Hop artists of all time, but very few people know their story.

The film features testimony from group members and a detailed account of the groups’ formation and journey.  Interview clips featuring members, other artists, and media tell the story of how 3 young men from East Detroit came together to create one of the most impactful groups in hip hop’s rich history.

“It is an honor to show the FANTASTIC documentary at one of the most prestigious film festivals in the country”, said FANTASTIC Producer Nicki Lynch.  “We’re grateful for the recognition. We want generations young and old to understand the SLUM Village story, and the huge impact this small group of men from Detroit has made on the Hip Hop culture.”
